Sung JinWoo’s progress in terms of strength and abilities depended upon his thirst for power.

He was a person who had experienced the pain of being the weakest hunter in the world. And upon witnessing an opportunity that came in the form of a ‘system’, Sung Jin Woo worked harder every day.

He was to eliminate monsters to level up. That means, the more he engages in battles and wins, the stronger he gets.

  • The greater the foe, the more experience and levels he would gain upon eliminating them, just like video games.
  • This was the basic factor for Sung Jin Woo to get stronger.
  • In simple terms, Sung would become strong with every fight he won.

“Let’s say I’m a hunter that grows stronger from each fight. How strong you think I can get?”

Sung Jin Woo’s quote

Now imagine if you were given such an opportunity to slay monsters and get stronger, what would you do?

As for me, I would work as hard as possible. If slaying monsters every time increases my strength, I would continue to do it until I become the strongest.

And this is how Sung Jin Woo used the system to rise to the top. No wonder he became so strong.

However, Sung didn’t gain all of his powers just by levelling up. It was Ashborn who decided to pass down his title and all his abilities to Sung Jin Woo after Sung had won the trust of Ashborn.

How did Sung Jin Woo get powers?

It was during the double dungeon arc that Sung was selected by the system to be the player of a ‘keep getting stronger’ game, when he was given the option to either die or be a player.

This game was designed by the ‘Architech‘, a ruler who created the game to help Ashborn (The Shadow Monarch) find a perfect and suitable vessel to withstand his overwhelming powers.

Double gate dungeons are considered to be dangerous and should not be approached upon encountering.

Any lower-class party should immediately inform the Hunter’s association of this incident.
However, Sung Jin Woo and most of his party members agreed to enter the gate to make a good amount of extra cash.

Upon entering the double Dungeon, the gate closed and party members were killed one by one by the statues present inside.

Why did ‘The System’ choose Sung Jin Woo?

You might have across the phrase, “Hard and determination pays, not immediately, but definitely.

This is what happened to Sung Jin Woo.

He was faced with circumstances that led him to walk the path of a hunter. The job where your lives are at risk in every raid.

He worked as a weak E-rank hunter for four years just to endanger his life in every raid.

One could only be considered lucky to be able to survive those dangerous raids for such a long duration without any skill or abilities.

But the reason for Sung JinWoo clinging through life was his family.

Even during the double dungeon incident, Sung displayed his courage and was ready to be the sacrifice for the sake of other’s safe escape.

Deep inside he wanted to live and go along with the others but instead chose to stay and face all the statues on his own.

His history of being a hunter and his courage during the double dungeon incident impressed Ashborn and The Architect to select JinWoo as the player of their System by inheriting Ashborn’s powers level by level.

And this is why Sung Jin Woo was selected to be the player of the system.

However, the System would not spoon-feed JinWoo. And he would be required to perform as instructed.

This is what the system needs. It’s not going to make me strong, I sow that it wanted me to be strong.

Sung Jin Woo’s quote

These are the daily quests that Sung Jin Woo had complete;

  • Push-ups = 100
  • Sit-ups = 100
  • Squats = 100
  • Running 100 km

At first, Sung ignored the system’s notifications and didn’t bother to fulfil the quest.

And was teleported to a dimension filled with giant centipede and was instructed to avoid being eaten by them for four hours.

After this incident, Sung-Jin Woo realised the originality of the system’s existence and seized this opportunity to get as strong as possible.

Why did Ashborn bestow his powers upon Sung Jin Woo?

Ashborn’s initial plan was not to pass his title of ‘Shadow Monarch’ and his powers down to Sung Jin Woo.

The system designed by the ‘Architech’ ensured that Sung Jin Woo would become strong enough to be the new vessel for Ashborn by constantly levelling up.

If that were to happen, Sung Jin Woo might have lost consciousness forever. His soul would have been lost into the void and Ashborn would have become the new owner of that body.

However, the powers provided by the system belonged to Ashborn, and not the ‘Architech’.

Furthermore, Ashborn chose to allow Sung Jin Woo to succeed him as the Next Shadow Monarch after observing Jin Woo closely after the latter embraced the System.

And realized that Sung possessed an unwavering capacity for moral judgment in addition to pure, unselfish, and compassionate nature.

Ahsborn created by the ‘Absolue being‘ along with the other Monarchs and rulers to entertain him by constantly waging war against each other. The rulers were created to save the other creation of the ‘Absolute’ being, and the Monarchs were created to destroy the other creations.

This was purposefully planned by the ‘Absolute’ being so that the Monarchs and Rulers would always be engaged in constant war, and become a source of entertainment for him.

Ashborn was initially a ruler, however, he later decided to change his sides and join the Monarchs in a war against Rulers, because they killed the Absolute being who was the creator of everything in the Solo Leveling verse.

Who is Strong, Sung Jin Woo or Ashborn?

Ashborn is known to be the strongest right after the ‘Absolute being’. He possessed such strength that was feared by the Monarchs even when he was fighting by their side.

He also commanded an Army of formidable Shadow Soldiers who would easily overwhelm some Monarchs as well.

But after Sung Jin Woo reawakened with Ashborn’s full power, he is said to be stronger than Ashborn to great degrees.

As Jin Woo progressed, he added several Shadow Soldiers to his army. And the experiences he gained while levelling up from the bottom helped greatly in shaping his decision-making abilities.

Let’s look at how strong Sung Jin Woo is:
